What does "homelessness" mean?

Who Qualifies?

  • Someone who lacks a fixed, regular, or adequate nighttime residence

  • Sharing housing with other persons due to loss of housing or economic hardship

  • Living in motels, hotels, trailer parks, or camping grounds due to lack of adequate accommodations

  • Living in transitional housing, shelters, or abandoned hospitals

  • Living in cars, parks, public spaces, or abandoned buildings

  • Migratory children living in any of the above circumstances

  • Unaccompanied youth -- students that do not live with a legal guardian

  • Those at imminent risk of losing housing

  • Those with substandard housing (lack of electricity, lack of plumbing, insufficient heating, too small for family)
